Pilates (puh-LAH-teez) is a non-impact deep muscle conditioning method developed by Joseph H. Pilates in the 1920s. Pilates works the body from the inside out, developing strength, flexibility, and coordination while improving body alignment, awareness and balance. Pilates is suitable for all ages and fitness levels—pregnant women, elite athletes, chronic pain sufferers, dancers, fitness enthusiasts, and rehab patients have all benefitted from the Pilates method. Linking a series of fluid movements with breath and mental focus, you will build core strength, release tension, open the joints and elongate the spine with this refreshing and energizing workout!
Fletcher Pilates is the Pilates method as it has evolved through master teacher Ron Fletcher. Ron is a Pilates "elder", that is, on of the five living teachers of the Pilates method who studied with Joe Pilates himself. These elders have gone on to teach the work, each with their own style while staying true to the essence of Pilates. Ron, who also studied with other movement geniuses such as Martha Graham, has evolved the traditional Pilates exercises with a unique focus on breath. All of the Pilates teachers at Studio 4 Pilates have studied with Ron Fletcher and are certified through the Ron Fletcher Program of Study.
